Postcard Perfect 001: Cathedral of Saint Sava, Belgrade, Serbia

Hi dear postcard collectors and fellow postcrosser, I will be sharing a lovely postcard send by Jelena thru a private swap in Postcrossing site and it is from Belgrade, Serbia.

Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia. The city lies at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkans. It has an urban population of 1.2 million, while the metropolitan area has more than 1.7 million people, making it one of the largest cities of Southeastern Europe. Its name translates to white city.
She said that this is the biggest Orthodox Christian Church on the world, CATHEDRAL OF SAINT SAVA!.

The Cathedral of Saint Sava  is an Orthodox church in Belgrade, Serbia, the largest Orthodox cathedral on the Balkans, and one of the largest Orthodox cathedrals in the world. The church is dedicated to Saint Sava, founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church and an important figure in medieval Serbia. It is built on the Vračar plateau, on the location where his remains were burned in 1595 by the Ottoman Empire's Sinan Pasha. From its location, it dominates Belgrade's cityscape, and is perhaps the most monumental building in the city. The building of the church structure is being financed exclusively by donations. The parish home is nearby, as will be the planned patriarchal building. It is not a cathedral in the technical ecclesiastical sense, as it is not the seat of a bishop (the seat of the Metropolitan bishop of Belgrade is St. Michael's Cathedral). In Serbian it is called a hram (temple), which is in Eastern Orthodoxy another name for a church. In English, it is usually called a cathedral because of its size and importance. (Source: Wikipedia)

I received this together with one more postcard (that I will be sharing next...) in an envelope, also inside the envelope was two banknotes, 10 dinars that is being used by their country now and the other one is 1000 dinars that was used during the war time and big inflation that makes it worthless! Again, thanks Jelena and here's the beautiful stamp!

I hope you learn something from this post because I did, I love to received postcards because I always see something new somehow!

Linking with Postcard Perfect and thanks to Mommy Willa for hosting this meme---its my first time! Thanks in advance for your comments, I will be visiting you back or first that's for sure!

Happy Postcrossing, everyone!
