The
Hmong, are an Asian ethnic group from the mountainous regions of China, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. Hmong are also one of the sub-groups of the Miao ethnicity (苗族) in southern China. Hmong groups began a gradual southward migration in the 18th century due to political unrest and to find more arable land.
A number of Hmong people fought against the communist-nationalist Pathet Lao during the Secret War in Laos. Hmong people were singled out for retribution when the Pathet Lao took over the Laotian government in 1975, and tens of thousands fled to Thailand seeking political asylum. Thousands of these refugees have resettled in Western countries since the late 1970s, mostly the United States but also Australia, France, French Guiana, and Canada. Others have been returned to Laos under United Nations-sponsored repatriation programs. Around 8,000 Hmong refugees remain in Thailand.

Rathaus or the Town
Hall is a historic building in the old town of Heidelberg.
After the initial town hall following the devastation of the Thirty Years War had to be demolished, was in the same place in the years 1701-1703 a new building in the style of the Baroque built. From this first period of the town hall also provided the masks and the electoral emblem of Hungarian sculptor Henry Charrasky on the front facade. Charraskys work is also the home to the giant visible. The City Council has undergone several alterations and extensions hereafter. The north wing was built 1886-1890. The great council chamber, which is located in that wing, the neo-Renaissance paintings and windows are complete with the Palatine history of the artist Charles Hoffacker decorated. Previously, those had been in the middle behind the balcony. After a fire in the town hall in 1908 the building was around the same in the style of neo-baroque south wing added on hold. The front at this point standing houses were demolished. The built in from the left side of the main tower facade, however, was later removed and integrated into the lower floors of the tower in the façade. The last cultivation experienced the Town Hall in 1961, when the bell tower was located on the east facade.
Blick zur Stadt is translated as the
view of the city...and with all these tiny pictures around the card, I can say the Heidelberg is such a lovely city...*smile*

Brugge is known
as the Venice of the North, Brugges is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. It was a justified motive that prompted UNESCO in 2000 to include the entire historical city centre on the World Heritage list. Walking along the maze of winding cobbled alleys and romantic canals, you imagine yourself to be in medieval times. The wealth of museums is a striking image of this city's stirring history. Bruges is also home to contemporary culture, such as the new Concert Hall, which is one of the most prominent music complexes in Flanders. The restaurants in Bruges which offer gastronomic cuisine and the exclusive hotels are a true feast for those who enjoy the good things in life.
Brugges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is located in the northwest of the country.
The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. It is egg-shaped and about 430 hectares in size. The area of the whole city amounts to more than 13,840 hectares, including 1,075 hectares off the coast, at Zeebrugge (meaning "
Brugge aan Zee"
or "Bruges on Sea"
). The city's total population is 117,073 (1 January 2008),
of which around 20,000 live in the historic centre. The metropolitan area, including the outer commuter zone, covers an area of 616 km² and has a total of 255,844 inhabitants as of 1 January 2008.
Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as "The Venice of the North". Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port. At one time it was the "chief commercial city" of the world. (Source:

Thanks so much
